how online therapy works

what to expect

We both are at home. You at your computer, me at mine in my home office. You can rest assured that my office space is both secure and reliable in terms of protecting and maintaining your confidentiality. You will have access to a secure online portal where you are able to join our online session. You will be entered into a virtual waiting room and you will be let into my virtual therapy room at our appointment time.

I use a secure video platform made specifically for health professionals called OwlPractice. They are PHIPA compliant, all data is encrypted, and the platform adheres to the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario's security guidelines for electronic practice. To read more about this platform, please visit their website.

Before your appointment, payment will need to be completed by e-transfer to psychotherapywithsara@gmail.com. Once the payment has been processed, you will have your receipt emailed to you. Please confirm with your insurance company beforehand that sessions with a Registered Psychotherapist will be reimbursed; if they are not, you are responsible for the full payment.

  • Convenience and increased accessibility.

  • Offers continuity of care if you or your therapist cannot attend the office location.

  • Allows for sessions to be conducted in a familiar environment.

risks specific to online therapy:

  • Possibility of technological failures: technical difficulties with hardware, software, and internet connection may result in service interruption. I am not responsible for any technical problems and does not guarantee that services will be available or work as expected.

  • Human error with technology.

  • Confidentiality risks that differ from in-person therapy sessions. Examples may include: being in a space where other people may hear or walk in during the sessions, and threats to cyber security.
