how I work

I use a handful of therapy modalities to help you and I come up with a treatment plan that feels authentic and is based on your personality and your worldview. I am not interested in trying to convince anyone that certain ways of living or being are better than any other; you and I will be working on what it means for you to feel more at home in your life and your mind.

I would describe my style as challenging and direct but non-judgmental; open-minded and willing to let people explore options in life that are very different from my own. I enjoy bringing a sense of play into my work and irreverence for the absurdities we find ourselves trying to makes sense of in this life. In balancing this quality, I seek to form genuine and deep connection with my clients, with a focus on creating a comfortable pace and emotional safety, with a keen understanding of the intricacies of intimacy. With that being said, if you are looking for a particular type of therapy you will find a list of the modalities I use here. Each clinician will work within these models differently, so in my opinion it's not as helpful to decide on therapy based on a theoretical model as it is to seek out someone that you feel you can trust and relate to.

But, here we are.

The backbone of my work is in postmodern approaches, namely Existential Therapy, Relational Therapy, and Narrative Therapy. It's a bit of a mouthful but what it all means is that I am really interested in how your experiences, your personal culture, our society, and other factors helped shape you into the person you are today. I utilize Attachment Theory to contextualize how our early relationships shaped our relationship to the world and our place in it. I sometimes use Mindfulness based approaches and techniques to practice creating space for new ways of being to take root.

TL;DR: I enjoy working with folks who are skeptical of the cultural norms of our society, and looking to figure out what fits for them instead of trying to live in other's expectations. I also enjoy working with other therapists who worry they can't find the type of containment and insight they provide for others. If this interests you... let's talk.

I offer a sliding scale fee structure for those with limited financial options, to be discussed before our first session. The frequency of sessions is something we can discuss and will be dependent on your needs. I am able to work with clients throughout Ontario via an online, virtual platform.

Unpaid fees will result in a suspension of services until a solution between us has been figured out.

Please contact your insurance company in advance of starting therapy to determine if my services (registered psychotherapist) are covered.

cancellation fee

I require at least 24 hours notice to cancel or move your appointment, otherwise you will be invoiced the full fee for the session.

referrals

If your concerns are outside of my professional capabilities, I can assist you by providing you with an appropriate referral, by no means are you obligated to make use of the services in which I refer you.

As a masters level psychotherapist I cannot prescribe medications or make any kind of formal diagnosis, but I am happy to work in collaboration with other health professionals to ensure there is no conflict in services provided.
